Steve Peterson, Virtual Operations Team Lead, Montgomery County, Maryland Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Mr. Steve Peterson serves the Montgomery County, Maryland Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) as its Virtual Operations Team Lead. Under his leadership, the team has virtually responded to over 30 local, state, national, and international disasters.
Mr. Peterson served as President of Montgomery County, Maryland CERT from 2012 to 2014. Steve is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) employed by the federal government and serves as the Chair of U.S. Department of Homeland Security Social Media Working Group Subcommittee of the Homeland Security Science and Technology Advisory Committee and Co-Chair of its Practitioner-Researcher Subcommittee.
Over 18 years, his professional specialization has focused on emergency communications policy development in both the public and private sectors. Moreover, Mr. Peterson personally provided on-site secure-data communications recovery support for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
